Melanie Dawn Spong, 54 of Clinton, MS passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, May 12, 2025. She was born on Monday, February 15, 1971, in Jackson, MS.

Princess Melanie, as she was affectionately known, was a shining light in the lives of those who had the privilege of knowing her. Her journey on this earth was one marked by laughter, love, compassion, and an unwavering faith in God. She was a registered nurse and a beloved Tax Coordinator. She enjoyed exploring new places, sailing the seas, and spending time with her children.

She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Spong; brothers, Brian Spong and Kevin Barrett Spong.

She is survived by her fiancé and soulmate, Jerry Birdwell; daughter, Kayleigh Graham; sons, Josh Hankins and Zach Hankins; sister, Karen Spong; mother, Jackie Spong; sister in laws, Sherri Spong and Jennifer Myers; niece, Raina Rice; nephews, Bryce Spong and Brandon Rice; dog and best friend, Gator; and a host of friends and other family.

A celebration of Melanie's life will be held Thursday, May 22, 2025 starting at 2pm at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home of Clinton, 106 Cynthia Street, Clinton MS.
