Mary Frances Sanders King, devoted wife, mother, grandmother (MeMe), sister, and friend departed this life at home surrounded by her loving family on Good Friday, April 10th.
She was born on May 23, 1938 at home on the family farm in Kosciusko, MS to loving parents Guy and Inez Sanders and welcomed by big sister Shirley Sue. Two and a half years later, she became a big sister to Julia "Judy" Maude. The three girls helped on the farm and learned that the most important things in life were not things but faith in the Lord, family, friends, honesty and hard work done well. Besides Kosciusko, she lived in a handful of places: Indianola, McComb, Vicksburg, and Clinton. She worked at Lewis Grocer, First National Bank, MS State Employment Commission, Hayes Graphic Arts, Clinton Public Schools and was a Luzier Cosmetics consultant. This career path and her knack for finances, also allowed her to purchase and manage many properties. Mary Frances knew the importance of giving back to communities and those in need. She served as President of the McComb Jaycettes, was a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha service sorority, and donated to many charities, people and churches. She was a member of Morrison Heights Baptist Church. Her favorite Bible verse was John 3:16.
She loved a bargain and had fun shopping for it. She also loved to bake cakes and she did it well, so well that one Christmas she was asked by her friends and coworkers to bake for them. She liked to go for walks, ballroom dance, read John Grisham books, and play bridge with her friends. She especially loved spending time with her family who always got together in Fairhope, AL for her birthday. She was a good, loving mother.
She met the love of her life, Maurice King, at church in July 2000 and by the first of September they were married. They had a wonderful life together. They went RVing over the southeast United States but always enjoyed getting back to their home where they loved rocking on the back porch drinking a good cup of coffee while watching the birds and looking at flowers. She had a good sense of humor which displayed itself when least expected. Often when she would leave to go somewhere, she would say, "If I don't come back, plant the garden in the same place as we did last year."
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Allen J Husbands. Those planting gardens in the same place as last year are her loving husband, Maurice King, step sons Mike King (Cindy) and Bruce King (Lisa), daughter Beverly Emerson (Tom) and son Lane Tucker (Anna), step daughter, Marie Windt (John) and step son, Duane Husbands, thirteen grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, two sisters Shirley Sanders and Judy Watts, numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
The family will have a private graveside service on Tuesday, April 14th at Parkway Memorial Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Dr. Barbara Craft and her nurse Nikki Simmons for their excellent care. Additionally, thanks are given to everyone from Encompass Health Hospice. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the March of Dimes.
