Mary Gale Page, a longtime resident of Clinton, died on March 6, 2017 at the age of 86. A memorial service will be held at the Church of the Creator in Clinton at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 11.
Mary Gale was born on February 13, 1931, the daughter of Freeland Gale and Ethel Richardson Gale, in Jackson, MS. She attended Ole Miss and graduated from the University of Florida at Gainesville with a degree in art. Years later she got a Masters in Education from Russell Sage College in Troy, New York. She worked for the Mississippi Department of Health in Vital Statistics for about 20 years. She was a master gardener, an avid genealogist, an accomplished knitter, a talented artist especially in portraiture, a devoted student of Mississippi history, and an active member of her church, the Episcopal Church of the Creator. She loved sharing cuttings and never missed the opportunity to plant a tree. She was a member of the First Families of Mississippi and a descendant of Patrick Henry.
She is survived by her daughters Gale, and Julie Page Schenk, sons David and Stephen, daughter-in-law Lore Stanziano, grandsons Adam and Alex Schenk, and granddaughters Hallie Smith and Caroline Page. She will be deeply missed by her family and her devoted friends.
Interment will be at Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Jackson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Clinton Nature Center.
