Obituary

Mary Delores Henderson, 88, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend peacefully passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2024.

Delores lived a life of faith, family and service.

She was the first child born to Aubrey Lane and Wootie Underwood in Sebastopol, MS.  She is survived by her cherished brother and sister, Jimmy (Diane) Underwood, Ridgeland, MS and Jean (late, Sidney) Underwood Cox, Brandon, MS.

Delores married her high school sweetheart, Troy Henderson, in Forest, MS, 1955.  For 61 years, she and Troy were happily married. Her true love, Troy, passed away in 2016.   Delores is survived by three daughters, Pam Reeves Sooy (late James Reeves & Steve Sooy), Beaufort, SC; Judy (Dave) Bufkin, Clinton, MS and Leigh James (Joel) Drummond, Meridian, MS.

Nana, as she was most fondly known by her six grandchildren, Anna (Eric) Singer, Birmingham, Mi; Abby (John David) Griesedieck, Darien, CT; Michael (Emily) Bufkin, Dallas,Texas: Merrilee Bufkin, Davis, California; Bailey (Jarrod) Bell, Dallas, Texas and Jill James, Flowood, Ms.

Additionally, she especially found great joy in her great-grandchildren Sam, Jack and Annie Singer; Oliver and Eleanor Griesedieck, Nate and Mary Bryce Bufkin.

Family and faith were the foundation of Delores' life and she and Troy attended every event they could in which their grandchildren were involved.  In retirement years, Troy and Delores found great joy in traveling with their RV across the nation with friends and grandchildren.  Additionally, she and Troy were involved in all aspects of the First Baptist Church Raymond and attended regularly for as long as their health allowed.  Delores especially enjoyed her Sunday school class and the church craft group she loved for many years.

Delores, attended East Central Community College, after marriage she sought work in the school administration offices in the area where they lived.  Troy's work moved them from Louisiana, Alabama and mostly in Mississippi where Delores served as the Hinds Community College bookstore manager for the last years of her working career.

Beside being Nana, her happiest times were spent sewing, knitting, crafting or quilting.  Delores was an excellent sewist and beautifully accomplished any sewing task she was given.  Despite limitations from Parkinson's disease, she created many beautiful crafts that are cherished by family members.

This is a hobby where she found great joy, accomplishment and happiness.

As we grieve the loss of the anchor of our family, we celebrate her life and all it's beautiful memories she has created for each of us.

Delores was a blessing to anyone around her and brought enthusiasm along with her wherever she was.  She lived a full life surrounded by family and friends that love her deeply.
