Obituary

Mary Jo Bridgers was called home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, October 6, 2019. She passed peacefully at her home with her two daughters, four grandchildren, and two sons-in-law at her bedside. Jo was born in Ellisville, Mississippi and lived most of her life in Terry before moving to Clinton in recent years.
Jo was a remarkable lady. She loved well, fought hard, gave wholeheartedly, and served with kindness and compassion. But aside of her love, kindness, and generosity, it was her sharp wit and humor that so many remember most. Jo spread her wit and charm at the most unexpected moments with a humor that delivered an immobilizing blow when you least expected it that would have you doubled over laughing and gasping for breath.
Jo cherished and loved her family, and so much of her life revolved around "her girls," as she called her two daughters, Glennis and Ramona. Every holiday and other special times throughout the year, Jo would gather her family together for a meal and to play games. She loved playing games, especially with her family. But games were a serious thing to her, no matter who she was playing, until she delivered one of her witticisms that left you rolling on the floor in laughter. Being with her family is what she enjoyed most. And it's no surprise that family played such a large part in her life, as she was born to a large family, with four brothers and two sisters, all of whom have remained close.
Jo had a deep and undying faith. Until she retired, she was a credit manager for Patterson, Inc. in Jackson, but her full-time job was loving Jesus and serving Him. Jo was an active member of Bethesda Baptist Church on Midway Road in Terry, until she moved to Clinton in 2017. At Bethesda, Jo was active teaching Sunday School and singing in the choir. Jo loved music and spread that love to others. She was in the adult choir and frequently directed the children's choir, where she introduced many young hearts to the joy of praising Jesus through song. Both of Jo's daughters were born with Jo's love and talent for music, and she often enlisted them to help perform at this service or compose that arrangement for the adult or children's choir. After moving to Clinton, Jo became a welcomed member of the Parkway Baptist Church family.
Jo was loved by many and will be deeply missed.
Jo is survived by her daughters, Glennis Spell (Rob) and Ramona Pevey (Kelly); grandchildren, Deven Spell Johnston (Reagan), Brandon Lewis Spell (Noelle), David Austin Pevey, and Mary Madison Pevey; great-grandchildren, Avery Johnston and Kennedy Spell; brothers, Curtis Ramone Cochran (Celia) and Nollie John Cochran (Judy); and sisters, Pinkie Lois Pace and Dorothy Elizabeth Singletary.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jack Barlow Bridgers; brothers, Glynn Allen Cochran and Frank Ed Cochran; and infant son, Glynn David.
