Martin E. ( Gene) Simmons, 83, went to be with the Lord on October 26, 2024,  at Baptist Medical Center.  He was born in Bogalusa, Louisiana  to Louise Dean Simmons and Leroy Simmons.  Growing up in Georgetown and Jackson, he was a stand out basketball player for Central High School.  Afterwards, he joined the Air Force, where he served in the fire service.  Then, he came home and served 30 faithful years with the Jackson Fire Department.  He was a member of Raymond Presbyterian Church, where he enjoyed the

preaching and the fellowship. He was preceded in death by his wife Sarah Calhoun Simmons,  his parents, and a brother Charles Simmons.  He is survived by siblings Sylvia Shoemaker, Steve Simmons (Rose), and Bob Simmons; his children Eddie (Beverly) Simmons  , Jean Ann (Troy) Skinner ; grandchildren Anna (Wes) Von Hoene, Adam(Whitni) Simmons, Ally Simmons, and Sarah Jane Skinner. As well as nieces, nephews, and friends.  The service will be held Wednesday, October 30, 2024.  Visitation from 12:00-1:00, Funeral service at 1:00 at Raymond Presbyterian Church, 129 Port Gibson St, Raymond; internment  to follow at Lakewood Cemetery 6011 Clinton Boulevard, Jackson.  The service will be officiated by Zach Byrd.
