Martha E. Furlow passed away on Monday, June 14, 2021 at her home in Pocahontas, MS at the age of 78.
Ms. Martha was born on August 7, 1942 in Harrisville, MS to Ernest Anderson Furlow and Cammie Hill Furlow, the youngest of three children. After working many years as an operator and then in billing administration, Martha retired from South Central Bell, now AT&T. In her early years she especially enjoyed bowling and traveled with competitive teams. She cherished her yard and loved flower gardening and yard art, especially gnomes.
While being a lifelong member of Pocahontas Baptist Church, Ms. Martha had a deep place in her heart for Pocahontas Methodist Church. The cemetery that lies just east of Pocahontas Methodist Church is where the Furlow family plot is located. Martha was an avid supporter of the little church while it was active and to date as it lies still in the small community. She strived to help maintain its beauty and historical value.
Ms. Martha is survived by her lifelong friend and companion, Bill Joy, of Clinton.
Martha is predeceased by her parents, her oldest brother who served in the United States Army, Leo A. Furlow and her "baby" brother, as she fondly called him, Bobbie H. Furlow, although he died as a toddler before she was born.
Pallbearers will be Randy Hales, lovingly called "Little Randy" by Ms. Martha, Joe Dawson, Edward Clincy, Jeff Webster, Scott Kindrex and Frank Petty.
Visitation will be held Thursday evening, June 17 from 4-8 p.m. at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home in Clinton. The memorial service will be held at Wright & Ferguson on Friday, June 18, at 11:00 a.m. An hour of visitation will be held prior to the service. Graveside services will follow at the Furlow family plot in the Pocahontas Methodist Church Cemetery in Pocahontas, MS.
