Margaret Bernice McGowan Six was born June 28, 1962, to Jerry and Mary Jo McGowan. She was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, Mamaw, aunt and friend to all. Margaret truly had a heart of gold and was always looking out for others, whether it was by lending a listening ear or her arms for a hug. Margaret didn't live for her happiness but for the happiness of others. She was beautiful inside and out. She had a billion-dollar smile and loved the Lord with all her heart. Margaret went home to be with the Lord on March 16, 2025.
Margaret proudly served in the United States Navy from October 1980 until November 2000 as a Disbursing Officer. Her military career took her to various parts of the world, such as Iceland and the Persian Gulf during Desert Storm. She earned numerous commendations for bravery and leadership. Her commitment to her country was unwavering and she was a source of inspiration to all who knew her. Upon her retirement from the military, she returned to her home state of Mississippi where she continued her working career holding various positions such as secretary/bookkeeper for Jackson First and Office Manager at Troubleshooters, Inc.
During her leisure time, she loved to read and enjoyed RVing around the country with her siblings. Margaret was the loving momma to Lauren Michelle and Michael Brandon and loving Mamaw to Evie, Corbyn and Salem. Margaret was also Mamaw to many others. She was preceded in death by her father, Howard Gerald (Jerry) McGowan, Sr., mother, Mary Josephine Newsome McGowan, brother, Howard Gerald (Buck) McGowan, Jr. and brother-in-law, Gary Wayne Neathery. She is survived by her daughter, Lauren Michelle Six and son, Michael Brandon (Abby) Six, grandchildren, Evelyn, Corbyn and Salem, brother, Charles Wayne McGowan, sisters, Judy (Allen) Loftin, Sheryl Neathery, Carla Olmstead, Teresa McGowan, Melissa (Mike) Walker, Candace (Allen) Archambault and sister-in-law Cheryl McGowan as well as extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. on Friday, March 21, 2025 at Jackson First Assembly of God in Jackson, MS with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. before the service. A graveside service will follow at Raymond Cemetery in Raymond, MS.
