Lynne Gail DeWeese Welsh

Lynne Gail DeWeese Welsh, age 89, of Madison, MS passed away peacefully on September 30, 2026, at the place she called home, surrounded by those that she loved. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin DeWeese and Jeanne Dugazon DeWeese.

Gail is survived by her loving husband, Carl (Sonny) Victor Welsh, Jr. of 67 years who never left her side; her children Vic Welsh (Gigi), Jeanne Lee Guy (Allen), Ed Welsh (Pam), and Mary Lynne Brennan (Blake); her brother Edwin Don DeWeese (Rita); her grandchildren Trey Koury (Nan), Victor Welsh, Morgan Hankins (Tim), Laura Lacy (Joey), Edwin Welsh, Jordan Treuting (Casey), Ansley Guy (Nick), Colin Welsh (Kennedy), Blake Brennan, Jr., Marion Welsh and Hadley Funderburg (Jack); her great grandchildren, Caroline, Katy Gwin, Tatum, Everett and Benjamin; her dear devoted friend, Theressa Otto, and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Gail was born in Philadelphia, MS on January 27, 1937. She graduated from Philadelphia High School as the Valedictorian of her class. She attended the University of Mississippi and then transferred to Louisiana State University where she graduated with a degree in Home Economics.

Gail married Sonny Welsh, the love of her life in 1959 and thus began her lifelong vocation as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a devoted mother, supporting her children in all their endeavors, never missing a ballgame or any other school event. While taking care of and managing the schedules for Sonny and her four children, Gail maintained her relationships with her friends and never missed a social event.

Gail was involved in Saint Richard Catholic School as a Homeroom Mom and a substitute teacher. She was a member of Tri Delta Alumnae Chapter, St. Dominic Hospital Auxiliary, Jackson Federation Club, The Recess Club, Talisman Club, Art n Tiques Club, Ladies of the Lake and several bridge clubs.

Her greatest achievement was her devotion to her family. Gail loved to host family parties and holiday gatherings in her beautiful home at Lake Caroline. She often hosted out of town company as well, and insisted they never stay at a hotel. Gail was an avid college sports fan. She frequently enjoyed watching Mississippi State baseball and LSU football games with her husband, Sonny. She was the definition of a true “Southern Lady,” who never missed a party and who always enjoyed socializing with family and friends as often as she could. Gail celebrated life everyday and never worried about anything that could be put off until tomorrow.

Visitation will be Friday, October 2, from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at Saint Joseph Catholic Church at 127 Church Road, Madison, Mississippi. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at the Church. A private family burial will be held Saturday, October 3, in Philadelphia, MS.

Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home will be servicing the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made be made to Saint Richard Catholic School, 4261 I-55 North, Jackson, MS 39206.
