Obituary

Loyd Smith, Jr. passed away on Monday, November 26, 2018, at Hospice Ministries, Ridgeland, Mississippi. He was born in Lincoln County, Mississippi, August 10, 1942, to Loyd and Montiel Smith, and grew up in Natchez, Mississippi. He graduated from Washington High School in Washington, Mississippi, and was a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi.

Loyd retired from Entergy Corporation in 2006 after 36 years. He served on the Board of Aldermen in the City of Flowood for 14 years and served in the Mississippi Army National Guard for 6 years, where he earned the rank of Staff Sergeant. In the mid 70's he was a member of the Flowood Volunteer Fire Department. He was previously a member of Eastside Baptist Church in Pearl, and more recently a long time member Pinelake Baptist Church in Brandon.

For many years he coached girls' softball and boys' baseball in the area. He was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed golfing, woodworking, and gardening.

He was preceded in death by his infant granddaughter Bailey Campbell Smith, his father Loyd M. Smith, and his mother Montiel Reid Smith.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Carolyn Glisson Smith; daughter Christi Lynn Smith; son David Loyd Smith (Kathy), two grandchildren Tucker Loyd Smith, and Bentley Caroline Smith, two brothers Bobby K. Smith (Pat) and Billy C. Smith (Judy), and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff of Baptist Hospital, Dr. Maria Rappai, Dr. Donald Mitema, Caring Companions sitters, the staff of Baptist Hospice, and the staff of Hospice Ministries for their care during the past few months.

Memorials may be made to the Gideons International of Mississippi, the Samaritans Purse Organization, and Pinelake Church Missions fund.

Visitation will be at the Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home on Burney Drive in Flowood, Mississippi on Wednesday, November 28, from 5 pm to 7 pm and on Thursday, November 29 at 10:00 am, preceding the service which begins at 11:00 am.
