Lonnie Lee Allen, 81, passed away peacefully at his home in Raymond, Mississippi, on Sunday, September 27, 2026.
Lonnie was born in Indianola, Mississippi, and grew up in Belzoni, where he graduated from Belzoni High School. He attended Mississippi State University for one semester before deciding college wasn't for him.
He served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves with the 173rd QM Company and was deployed to Phu Bai, Vietnam, from 1968 to 1969. After returning home, he went to work full time for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Vicksburg. He spent much of his career working many different projects on the Mississippi River, a place he truly loved. He retired from the Corps in 2000.
Lonnie made his home in Edwards during his working years and, after retirement, moved to Raymond to be even closer to the family who loved him dearly. He was an avid deer and turkey hunter and a proud member of Old Whitaker Hunting Club in Rocky Springs for 40 years, having served as President for a number of those. Once his grandchildren arrived, his world revolved around them. They could do no wrong. He helped in countless ways and attended as many of their events as possible.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Turner Allen, Sr.; his mother, Sarah Frances Glidewell Allen; and his brother, Thomas Turner Allen, Jr.
He is survived by his son, Charles Jeffrey Allen (Leslie) of Raymond; his sister, Yolanda Allen Lewellyn of Walla Walla, WA; his grandsons, Brady Allen Renfro and Reed Evans Allen; his granddaughter, Sadie Elizabeth Allen; step-daughter Wendy Varnado and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Thursday, October 1, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., with a service immediately following at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home in Raymond. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Good Samaritan Fund at Raymond Methodist Church (PO Box 64, Raymond, MS 39154). The Good Samaritan Fund helps persons in need in the Raymond area.
