Obituary

Leroy "Roy" Patterson, Jr, of Clinton, MS passed away May 11, 2023 in Jackson, MS after a lengthy illness.  Born November 8, 1958 in Jackson, he was the son of Leroy "Pat" Patterson, Sr., and Althea "Myrt" Partridge Patterson.

Mr. Patterson grew up in Jackson, MS, graduating from Manhattan Academy.  A Catholic, he was a former member of St. Therese Catholic Church in Jackson and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Canton, MS, as well as a former member and officer of the Knights of Columbus. In the years before his illness, he also attended Holy Savior Catholic Church in Clinton on occasion.

Roy's chosen career field was industrial/commercial building maintenance, later specializing in HVAC maintenance. He began work in the building maintenance field with Jeffcoat & Associates in Jackson, primarily handling BellSouth's area buildings. He was later employed with Dillards Department Stores as an HVAC technician, and rose through the ranks to Division Engineer with responsibility for the Southeastern District. Roy's career with Dillards would take him to Lake Charles, LA, and later to Fort Worth, TX, with his wife Cathy, ultimately returning to Ridgeland, MS upon his retirement. He was well respected in the industry among his peers, supervisors, and employees for his knowledge and skills with chiller/HVAC maintenance, installation, and repair.

Roy enjoyed many hobbies and interests through the years, including coin collecting, country music, and New Orleans Saints and Mississippi State football. He was always on the hunt for Coca Cola, NASCAR, and other vintage memorabilia of interest, or that special, 'hard-to find' coin. But his greatest joy came when he attained the title of "Grandpa". He always proudly sported the newest "World's Greatest Grandpa" t-shirt or cap, loved spending time with his grandchildren, and could always be found in attendance at their various activities.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Patterson was preceded in death by his wife of 10 years, Cathy Myers Patterson and brother-in-law, George (Buzz) Barnett. He is survived by his daughter, Maria Patterson Humer (Will) of Clinton, son Jeffrey Patterson (Shianne) of New Orleans and their mother, Karen Barnes of Clinton; and son Luke Patterson of Kansas; grandchildren Kaitlyn Hamilton, Isabel Humer, Karyssa Hamilton, and Landon Hamilton, all of Clinton; sister Katherine Barnett of Texas; niece Brandy Barnett of Portland, and nephew Brett Barnett of Spain.

Honorary pallbearers are Will Humer, Brett Barnett, Carlton Anderson, Ronnie Small, David Longo, and Stan Martin.

A special thank-you to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Select Specialty Hospital in Jackson for their compassionate care in the last months of Roy's life.
