Leland F.
Douglas
October 24, 1937 – May 23, 2024
Leland Douglas of Learned, MS, was born in Shivers, MS on October 24, 1937 and went to his Heavenly home on May 23, 2024. He was a class of 1956 graduate of Columbia High School. In December 2012 he married Carolyn Douglas of Raymond, MS where he resided until his passing.
Leland loved and served both his family and his community well. He loved Jesus and he had a kind heart, a quick laugh, and a joke always on the ready. Throughout his life you could find him quietly lending a helping hand to those in need whether that meant picking you up off the side of the road, visiting you in the hospital, or making sure you had the tools you needed to succeed. While he loved many things in this life, especially the outdoors and eating fried fish, he was most proud that each of his children accepted Jesus as Lord of their lives.
He was the last Charter Member of the Oak Forest Exchange Club in South Jackson where he served in various leadership roles, was a member of the Clown Unit, and was instrumental in getting Tennis South developed. Along with that, he also helped in the building and starting of Leavell Woods Park and Flowers Park in Jackson, MS. He was a member of the Army Reserves. Throughout his career in the transportation industry, he built his own trucking company, worked for Campbell 66, and finally Tri-Miss Services, Inc. Throughout the years, he successfully lobbied the legislature for the transportation industry.
He is survived by his wife of 11 years Carolyn Douglas, his five children: Twyla (Kerry) Jackson of Atlanta, GA; John (Susan) Douglas of Learned, MS; Lisa Quinn of Brandon, MS; Leigh Ann (Zach) Gulley of Monroe, LA; and Lauren (Sam) Carpenter of Memphis, TN. He is also survived by his six grandchildren: Kaci (Eric) Sanderson; Kori (Chris) Stokes; Lee (Natalie) Douglas; Ashley Douglas, Will Stuart, and Rowan Gulley; his nine great-grandchildren and baby boy Douglas who will be joining us October 2024; his sister, Faye (David) Peoples of Florence, MS; and former wife Kathy Cannon of Clinton, MS. Leland also had two "adopted" sons whom he considered his own and loved dearly: John Pugh of Jackson, MS and Ben (Michelle) Lilley of Clinton, MS. Leland also leaves a legacy of loving others as his own children and many more he loved throughout his years.
He was preceded in death by his parents Claude and Tina Douglas, his sisters Billie Jean Douglas and Alice Prestwood, brother-in-law Austin Prestwood, and former wife Eddie Douglas.
