Larry Leroy Godfrey went home to be with his Heavenly Father in the early morning hours of December 16, 2023.  Larry was born on August 18, 1933 as the only child of Robert Leroy Godfrey and Myrtle Matthews Godfrey in Pontotoc county Mississippi.  He was raised in Pontotoc county, attended MS State University and graduated from there with a bachelor's and master's degree in Education.  Larry began his teaching career in Amory, served as the Principal at Drew High School and then worked in vocational education at the MS Department of Education.  He was the director of vocational education at the Jackson branch of Hinds Community College.  He completed his service in education as the Principal of North Pontotoc High School and retired in the mid-1980's.  After retiring from public education, Larry obtained his realtor's license and worked with his wife Martha Kate "Katie" Godfrey selling real estate in Clinton into the mid-1990's.

Larry moved his family to Clinton in 1967 and Clinton remained home until his death.  He enjoyed the years of watching his sons play sports at Clinton and then attending events of his grandchildren all through their years at Clinton Public schools.  Larry was lovingly known as "Pop" to his family and was the apple of his grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's eyes.  He could always be counted on for his quick-witted humor and could have a room laughing with him as he enjoyed sharing amusing stories of growing up in north MS in days gone by.

Larry is predeceased by his parents Leroy and Myrtle Godfrey and by his son Robert "Bob" Lynn Godfrey.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Katie Godfrey; sons Don Godfrey (Lynne) and Mike Godfrey (Karen); grandchildren Jana Hunt (Josh), Molly Granger (Jake), Anna Godfrey, Emily Holaday (Davis), Matthew Godfrey, Bracey Godfrey and Josey Kate Dewberry (Vance), and 11 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home in Clinton. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. before the service.
