Obituary

Larry Charles Barnes passed away at St Dominic Hospital on
Sunday, September 7, 2025, surrounded by family after a brief
illness.
Larry was born on November 14, 1938, in Woodward, IA. Larry
worked in all areas of construction most of his life, only retiring in his
late 70s; although he never retired from supervising projects,
requested or not. He moved to Clinton, MS with his family in 1973
and decided to make it their forever home. He had a great love for all
things fast, especially motorcycles and race cars, building many of
them himself over the years. He loved his family more than anything
in this world, even racing those beloved cars. He had a big heart and
was the biggest softie when it came to his grandkids.
At times, with his large stature and stoic look, it was surprising to
many that he was a humorous and sometimes kind man, especially
the older he got. He loved music of any kind, although he did fall
asleep at a rock concert once. He was an avid reader, sometimes
reading multiples books in one day, always with music playing in the
background. He enjoyed sitting in his recliner watching sports,
especially football, each weekend. Larry lived a life full of love,
family and experiences and will be greatly missed.
Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Jaunita Morris, brother
Gary Barnes, sons Joshua and Jeffery Barnes and his great
granddaughter Haylee.
Larry is survived by his son Jeremy Barnes (Dawn) of Brandon, MS,
his daughter Emily Ballenger (Scott) of Clinton, MS, grandchildren
Amanda Northcutt (Chris) of Diana, TX, Whittney Northcutt (Nick) of
Diana, TX, Jason Murray (Anna) of Brandon, MS, Melisse Barnes of
Pearl, MS, Matthew Barnes (Hannah) of Star, MS and Isabella
Ballenger of Clinton, MS and 7 great grandchildren.
