Lamar Thomas, 82, went home to the Lord on Tuesday, June 16, 2015. At the time of his passing, he was surrounded with his immediate family and a few close friends. Funeral Services will be held on Friday June 19, 2015 at the Wright & Ferguson Chapel in Raymond, MS., beginning with visitation at 12 noon and service beginning at 1pm with graveside service to follow at the Raymond Cemetery on Dry Grove Street in Raymond, MS.
Lamar was born January 14, 1933 in Carthage, MS. He was affectionately known to his friends as "STICK". He served his country in the U.S. Army for 2 years prior to transitioning back to civilian life. Lamar spent most of his business life involved in the sales of truck and off road tires. He worked for B.F. Goodrich prior to opening his own business called G&L tire. The last years of his professional life were spent as an employee of Hinds Community College.
Lamar had a love for the outdoors that was only rivaled by his love for his family and friends. He would use his love for the outdoors as a tool to convey his love of the Lord to his son and grandson. His favorite area to be was called "The Farm". This is an area in Copiah County where the family enjoyed the outdoors together and also where Lamar raised his son and grandson and taught them to appreciate even the smallest of God's creatures as well as develop a huge respect for nature. Although Lamar's earthly form is no longer with us, a large part of his soul will always remain at "The Farm". His friends were as family. He would always make a point to keep up with events in their lives as well and would be first to make a call to check on them or their family. Always quick with a joke or comment, with the intent to create a smile on someone else's face. He was beloved by all that were blessed to have been part of his life.
He was preceded in death by his father, A.E. Thomas; his mother, Edna Thomas; his brother, James Thomas; and his sister, Fannie Jean Thomas.
Lamar is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty Jean Thomas, his son, Stacy Thomas, and his beloved grandson, Timothy Thomas as well as many other family and friends.
The family would also like to extend special thanks to Dr. David Wheat of Clinton and Dr. Justin Baker of Jackson. Their compassionate care and attention will be forever appreciated.
