Lamar Frizelle Morton was born on February 25, 1933, in Meridian, Mississippi, to the union of Nursia (Harbour) and Henry Morton. He was preceded in death by both parents and his beloved sister, Francis.
Lamar leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and dedicated wife of 42 years, Cal Joy White-Morton; his devoted children, Cheryl, Wanda, and Gregory Morton, grand-daughter Courtney, great-grand-daughter Nia Morris; Brother in law: R.J. White, Sister- in laws; Debra (Vernell) Stovall, Daisy White, & Cynthia Stewart; along with a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
A naturally gifted athlete, Lamar was an exceptional baseball player and a member of the Meridian Cubs, a feeder team to the Negro Baseball League organization. His talent and skill earned him recognition from teammates, rivals, and both semi-professional and professional recruiters.
Lamar proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as an airplane mechanic. Following his military service, he dedicated 30 years of hard work and commitment to Inland Steel and 10 years to the Grand Rapids Public Schools Transportation Department, exemplifying perseverance and integrity throughout his career.
Known for his quick wit and wicked sense of humor, Lamar was also an exceptional pool player who rarely missed a chance to claim victory—and the bragging rights that came with it. His love for bowling and his unwavering devotion to the Chicago Cubs reflected his competitive spirit and enthusiasm for life. His charm, laughter, and magnetic personality brought joy to all who knew him and brightened every room he entered.
A devoted husband, father, and faithful member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Flowood, Mississippi, Lamar will be remembered for his warmth, generosity, and enduring sense of humor. He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and cherished memories.
