A celebration of the life of Katherine Kilby Nutt will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2016, at 11:00 at Raymond United Methodist Church with graveside services following at Raymond Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 on Saturday at the church.
Kathy Nutt, 72, died at home. She was born on March 24, 1943, to the late Harold Richard Kilby and the late Katherine Scott Kilby in Raymond. She was educated at Hinds Junior College, where she was the accompanist for the Hinds Junior College Choir and won the Music Award. She also graduated from Louisiana State University, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education and later was awarded a Master's degree in Music Education from Mississippi College.
Kathy will be remembered for her extraordinary musical talent on the piano and for her gift with children. She taught public school music at Oak Forest Elementary, Clinton Junior High, and was the Director of Fine Arts at St. Andrews Episcopal School. She enjoyed working with community cultural endeavors, such as the Jackson Opera Guild, the Jackson Symphony League, the Belhaven Garden Club, and the Ballet Mississippi Guild.
Kathy was a member of Raymond United Methodist Church while she lived in Raymond and St. Andrews Episcopal Cathedral when she lived in Jackson.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Laura Katherine Nutt, and her brother, Dick Kilby, Jr. She is survived by her son, David Richard Nutt, her sister Sandra Kilby McKay (Mike), her sister-in-law Ginger McNair Kilby, and her nieces, Kate Kilby Raffaelle (John) and Ann Fowler Purcell (Clay), and nephews Scott Kilby (Jodie), Richard Kilby, and Jay Fowler (Fran).
