Karen Hawkins Teague, 77, of Clinton, MS died Friday, September 1, 2017 at her residence. Formerly of Indianapolis, IN and Columbus, MS she moved to Clinton in 1982. Karen was born January 28, 1940 in Peoria, IL a daughter of the late Lawrence Kelsey and Mary Julia (Dwyer) Hawkins. She attended the St. Vincent School of Nursing in Birmingham AL and later received her bachelor's degree from the University of Cincinnati and her master's degree in healthcare administration from the University of Southern Mississippi. Karen was a proud nurse and administrator. She worked as a consultant administrator which took her to assignments in Minnesota, New Mexico, Iowa, Wisconsin, Arizona, Oklahoma, Nebraska and Arkansas, making lifelong friends along the way. She retired in 2015 at the age of 75. Karen loved her large family and traveling the world. In addition to attending the many activities of her grandchildren, a trip to China and several cruises were among her highlights. Buck and Karen along with their children and grandchildren took a cruise to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.
Survivors include her loving husband of 56 years, Gary Buck Teague and children: Jody (Jerry) Adams, Mark (Stephanie) Teague, Tim Teague, Suzanne Teague, and Terri (Thom) Crutchfield. She had 11 grandchildren. Other survivors include her sisters Janet (John) Zetzl of Brownsburg, IN and Jeanne (Kent) VanTyle of Indianapolis, IN as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, James (Jim), Larry and William (Bill) Hawkins.
Visitation will be 5-8 pm on Monday September 4th at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in Clinton Mississippi and from 12-1 pm Sept 5th at Holy Savior Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday September 5th at 1:00 P.M. at Holy Savior Catholic Church, 714 Lindale Street, Clinton, MS. Burial will follow in the Lakewood Memorial Garden. Memorial contributions may be made to the Blair E Batson Children's Hospital.
