She is preceded in death by her maternal Grandfather David Alexander Godwin of Camby, Indiana, and her paternal Grandfather Bonny Doil Johnson of Valley Park, MS. Surviving Great Aunts include Irene Howard and her daughter Beverly from Fort Worth, TX, Jacqueline Kester Lee from Griffin, GA, and Sandra Kester Peters from Calhoun, LA. Paternal cousins include Kylan, McKinley, Briley (Li), and Mallory Johnson. Maternal cousins include Kelsi Keith Stinson and Josh Stinson, Kevin Keith, and Dakota Haggard.
Katie was born August 1, 2000, in Flowood, MS. She lived with her family in Brookhaven, MS until 2011 when the family moved to Jackson, MS. Katie began seventh grade at Jackson Academy (JA), where she attended and graduated in 2018. At JA, Katie was enthusiastically involved in the theatre, was a member of the Encore Show Choir, and played on the tennis team. After graduating, she received a scholarship and attended Mississippi State University (MSU) for four years as an undergraduate engineering student. She was on the Dean's List and in the Shackoul's Honors College from 2018 through 2020. During the majority of her time at MSU, she had her beautiful white German Shepherd "Remi" as a fun and loving canine companion and study buddy close by her side.
Katie was adored and loved by all of her family and will be remembered for her positive outlook on life and beautiful, contagious smile. Her friends would describe her as a loving, caring, beautiful soul whose happiness and joy beamed light into everyone around her. Her eternal optimism, confidence, and intellect brought hope and encouragement, for which she will always be remembered. Katie loved spending time with her friends, family, and extended family, which often included lots of games, laughter, and get-togethers with everyone at home or at the lake. Katie loved her dog Remi, and would spend hours throwing a tennis ball, taking him to the dog park, hanging out by the pool, or watching her play in the pool. Remi has a spunky personality, just like Katie, and quickly became part of the family. She was an important part of Katie's life, and will continue to provide the family joy and laughter.
