Obituary

June Crellin, age 100, died on September 26 in Jackson after a brief illness.  She is survived by her son, Jimmy (Mary Schow), daughter,  Carol Tubbs (Richard), granddaughter,  Rachael Drake (Matt), and two great grandchildren, Vada Lea and Oliver.  She also leaves behind numerous extended family members and a host of close friends.  She was preceded in death by her husband Jim, infant daughter Nancy, and three sisters.

June was born to August and Marjorie Burow in Table Rock Nebraska on October 25, 1922 and raised in Humboldt, Nebraska.  She and Jim married in 1948 after both graduated from the University of Nebraska, she as a registered nurse and he as a dentist.  Shortly after, they moved to Lewistown, Montana where Dr. Crellin opened a dental practice and she began her career in public health nursing.

Life events eventually brought them to Jackson where June made many friends and grew to love her adopted state.  Widowed in 1978, she was quietly but fiercely independent and kept a positive attitude regardless of circumstances.  She retired from nursing at UMMC in 1986 but remained active in serving at her church, socializing with friends, - even bowling – and spending time with her beloved granddaughter.

Although her situation eventually prevented her from attending, she was a longtime, faithful member of Broadmeadow United Methodist Church.  June had a wonderful wit and a constant spirit of gratitude.  She valued human relationships and generosity over material possessions and she put those values into action in her life.  The family is grateful that she was able to realize her wish to live out her life in her own home thanks to her loving, dedicated caregivers Becky Miller, Jo Bailey, and student helpers Abbey, Emily, Georgia Kate, Emma and Raven.

We will miss her terribly, but she leaves us with a legacy of memories and wisdom.

A private service will be held at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in Flowood. An informal gathering of friends and family will be held at her home at 1218 Plantation Blvd. on Friday October 6, 2023 at 2:00pm.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Methodist Children's Home or the charity of your choice.
