Joyce Elizabeth Mullican, 91, passed away on Saturday, January 16, 2021, in Byram, MS.
Joyce was born November 12, 1929, to Rennie Elizabeth Dear Mullican and John Robert Mullican. She graduated from the Mississippi School for the Deaf where she received numerous honors, especially for her athletic abilities. Joyce had a long career in Jackson, MS, including work with the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the Jackson Police Department, and the Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services. She was a member of Woodland Hills Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Robert Dear Mullican.
She is survived by her cousins Wayne Lamar Dear of Orlando, FL, and Nancy Dear Baker of Pearl, MS.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the sweet ladies of Jackson LifeSigns who not only interpreted for her for many years but also became dear friends. And to Melanie Woodward who was such a wonderful friend to Joyce and to the family. Finally, to the kind and caring staffs at The Blake in Flowood and at Edgewood Health and Rehabilitation in Byram where she resided in recent years and to Pax Hospice for their tender, loving care.
Joyce will be laid to rest in Wesson Cemetery. Due to the Coronavirus, a graveside memorial service will be held at a later date.
