Obituary

Joyce Saway Howe passed peacefully in her sleep during the early morning hours of December 29, 2022.  She is survived by her husband Bruce, sons Robert and David and their wives, and two grandchildren.

Joy was born in Quincy, Illinois in 1934 and grew up in the surrounding area.  She moved to Louisiana for higher education, meeting her future husband, Bruce, on the campus of South Eastern Louisiana College.  They married on September 8, 1956 and had their two sons while living in Baton Rouge.  Bruce continued his academic career and Joy became a clerk at Junior Division of Louisiana State University.

They lived in California for a period of time where Joy worked as an Executive Secretary for Northup- Grumman and it was often said she would 'keep those executives in line'.  They later moved to Colorado, where she worked for Honeywell.  Not feeling challenged, she started a new career in real estate, working at Coldwell Banker.  She thrived, winning many awards and often was recognized as a top performer.  She quickly became a broker, starting her own company Howe and Company, which was also incredibly successful.

Later years had her traveling with Bruce to foreign countries where he had business opportunities in geophysics.  Egypt and Jakarta, Indonesia were among her favorite spots.

Retirement found Bruce and Joy living between their two homes in Colorado and Mississippi.  They had been married for 66 years at her passing.

She loved spending time with Bruce, her children, and grandchildren and loving friendships in Mississippi gave her great comfort.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Woodrow (Woody) W Saway and Virginia (Ginny) Rickert Saway.
