Josephine Smith Byas, born December 26, 1950, in Jackson, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2026, at Baptist Medical Center.

Josephine's journey began in the heart of Jackson, where she was born and later chose to raise her family. Her life was rooted deeply in her hometown, and she made lasting contributions to her community through her steadfast commitment to her family and the values she cherished.

Josephine valued education and self-improvement throughout her life. She achieved a significant milestone by earning her bachelor’s degree from the George Meany Center of Labor Studies in Maryland. This accomplishment stood as a testament to her dedication and determination.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 24, 2026, at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home, Flowood, MS. Interment will follow at Lakeland Place Memorial Park in Brandon.
