Joseph Benjamin "Joe" Moss, 75, passed peacefully at his home in Flowood, Mississippi, on Friday, November 8, 2024.A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 10, 2024, at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home in Flowood, Mississippi.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Judge Joe G. and Pam Moss and brother, Attorney Jack Moss. He is survived by his wife, Janet Barlow Moss; brother, Judd Moss (Barbara); sons, Jeff (Becky), Justin (Molisa), daughter, Christy Holt(Cory); 5 grandchildren, Kathryn and Jarrett Moss; Katelyn and Jackson Moss; and Lee Holt.
Joe was born in Jackson, Mississippi, on September 29, 1949. He graduated from Raymond High School and Mississippi College where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science. In 1974, he graduated from the University of Mississippi School of Law where he received the Juris Doctorate Degree.
Joe was a practicing attorney in Jackson for 28 years and an active member of the Mississippi Bar Association for 50 years. He served 5 terms (1977-2020) as the elected Hinds County Prosecuting Attorney. He was also active in the Mississippi Prosecutors Association where he served in a variety of offices including President.
Joe retired from the Mississippi Army National Guard as Brigadier General in 2002 after 32 years of service. He began his military career in 1970 with the 323rd Aviation Battalion and later with the 2nd Armored Division. He continued his service with 112th Military Police Battalion. In 2000, Joe was constitutionally appointed as State Judge Advocate for the Mississippi National Guard.
Joe was an avid outdoorsman with a passion for conservation. He was very active in conservation groups such as Ducks Unlimited, where he served as State Chairman and also served on many conservation committees.
Joe and his wife, Janet, are members of Pinelake Church Reservoir Campus in Brandon, Mississippi. In lieu of flowers, the family asked that you make donations in memory of Joseph B. Moss to the Church or to Ducks Unlimited.
