Joseph E. Weatherly, Jr. passed away on Sunday, October 1, 2017. He was 97.
Born October 28, 1919 in Memphis, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Joseph E. Weatherly, Sr. and Grace Lancaster Weatherly. He was a graduate of Louisiana State University and served in the Army in World War II in the Philippines.
He married Marjorie Pitts Weatherly in 1941. He served as Deputy State Forester for the State of Mississippi from 1952 until 1980. After his retirement, he and Marjorie enjoyed traveling the United States and Canada. They were members of Woodland Hills Baptist Church.
His wife, Marjorie, preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Weatherly, and his sister, Hazel Weatherly Brown. He is survived by his children, Sally Weatherly Fontenot of Jackson and Richard Alvin Weatherly (Lou) of Brandon. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Chuck Wilkins (Michelle), Guy Wilkins (Leigh Ann), Richard S. Weatherly (Karen), and Katie Thorne, as well as eight great-grandchildren, Chris Spann, Jamie Spann, Charlie Wilkins, Clayton Wilkins, Sally Wilkins, Nathan Weatherly, Julie Weatherly, and Andrew Thorne.
A private graveside service will be held for the family. Memorials may be made to The Salvation Army.
