Obituary

On the evening of November 26, 2022, surrounded by his family, Joseph Collum went home to be with the Lord at the age of 84. Services will be held Thursday, December 1, 2022 in The Venue at Pinelake Church, 6071 MS Hwy 25, Flowood MS 39232. Visitation will begin at 9:30am, funeral service at 11:00am, followed by graveside services at Lakeland Place Cemetery across the highway from Pinelake Church. Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in Flowood will be handling the arrangements.

Joe was born to Vance and Margie Collum in Meridian, MS. Joe joined the Navy at the age of 18 and was stationed in San Diego, CA. There he met and married Mary Lou his beloved wife of 63 years. Together they raised three children, Van, Max and Julie. Joe attended Clarke Baptist College and California Baptist College where he majored in music. He served the Lord as worship leader in churches in California and eventually Mississippi, including Pinelake Church. Joe also worked for IBM for 18 years and ended his career as a partner of a local office equipment business.

Joe had many talents and hobbies, including a beautiful singing voice, artistic abilities, and was an avid outdoorsman, loving to fish the most. Joe also loved watching sports, especially Mississippi State athletics. But more than that, Joe loved people. He never met a stranger and had the ability to make anyone feel important and welcome.

Joe loved to spend time with his family. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy. He always made sure they knew how proud he was of them and the importance of having a personal relationship with the Lord. He, in return, was so loved by all of his family and leaves a legacy of his commitment to the love of people, love of family, but most of all to love, serve and honor the Lord.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Vance and Margie Collum; and brother, Max Collum.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Collum; children, Van Collum, Max Collum (Cheryl), Julie Parkman (Louie); grandchildren, Kayla Collum, Jared Collum, Samuel Collum, Michael Nash (Cori), Preston Collum, Taylor Collum, Reed Collum, Mitchell Parkman (Karen), Danielle DuPont (Joshua), and Peyton Parkman; great grandchildren, Bear Nash, Mary Alice Parkman, and Jovie DuPont; his brother, Gordon Collum (Shelby); sister, Jan Palmer; as well as cousins, nieces, and nephews.
