John Frank Porter, age 96, passed away in Jackson, MS, on Friday, July 8, 2016.
Mr. Porter was born in Crystal Springs, MS, on July 15, 1919, to Wilbur Rex Porter and Eugenia Barnes Porter. He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 62 years, Billye Jo Channell Porter. He is survived by his son, William Harold Porter (Barbara) of Clinton; daughter, Darryl Jan Porter, of Atlanta; grandson, William Ryan Porter (Emily) of Memphis; granddaughter Paige Porter Fischer (Greg) of Richmond, VA; and five great-grandchildren.
Mr. Porter served in the Army Air Corp for five years and achieved the rank of Master Sergeant. He was an ordained deacon in the Baptist church and a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Hattiesburg, MS. Mr. Porter was an amateur Ham Radio operator for 70 years and was a member of the American Radio Relay League and the Hattiesburg Amateur Radio Club. He was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason. Mr. Porter worked for the FAA in Miami, Florida, for 35 years before retiring to Hattiesburg, MS, in 1985. He moved to Clinton, MS, in 2011 and has resided at Brookdale there for the past five years.
A private, family graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 13, 2016, at the Crystal Springs City Cemetery.
