John Earl McGahey, Sr., passed away Monday June 27, 2016, peacefully at his home surrounded by his wife of 58 years, Rachael Watson McGahey; son, John McGahey, Jr. ; daughter, June Chrystella McGahey; and devoted friends, Mary Frances Durrett and Tania "Beth" Atwell.
John was born August 31, 1936, to Constance Inez Jones and Woodrow H. McGahey in Louisville, MS. They preceded him in death as did his paternal grandparents, John Calvin and Ida Hill McGahey and his maternal grandparents, Earl Wade and Hermie Alice Tucker Jones all of Louisville, MS.
General George S. Patton McGahey, Esquire met John at the Rainbow Bridge where he has waited for his master for the past 10 years. George was his beloved pet and best pal.
In addition to wife and children, John is survived by brothers, Ronald M. McGahey (Nancy); Paul J. McGahey (Carolyn) and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
John began a career in banking in 1957 at Deposit Guaranty in Jackson and worked at several local banks for 33 years. He began a second career at the Mississippi Department of Agriculture as property officer and retired in 2013 after 26 years of state service. John was a Master Mason at Hinds Lodge 628, Raymond, MS and a member of Hinds Independent Methodist Church, Raymond, MS.
All services will be held privately.
