Obituary

Rev. John A. Higginbotham, 96, passed away Thursday, February 1, 2018 at the State Veteran's Home.

Visitation will be Saturday, February 3, 2018 from 12pm - 2pm at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, Brandon with funeral services beginning at 2pm. Interment will follow at Puckett Cemetery.

A WWII Veteran and Purple Heart Recipient, Rev. Higginbotham was born November 23, 1921 in Hermanville, Mississippi to the late Rev. and Mrs. C.Y. Higginbotham.

Rev. Higginbotham attended Millsaps College, the Divinity School of Duke University, in Durham, N.C. and did advanced studies at the Candler School of Theology at Emory University in Atlanta, GA. He was licensed to preach in 1957.

Along with serving many churches in Mississippi and two in North Carolina, Rev. Higginbotham organized Aldergate United Methodist Church in North Jackson and St. Mark's United Methodist Church on the Reservoir.

Rev. Higginbotham leaves his devoted wife, Evelyn Burnham Higginbotham; son, J. Michael Higginbotham and wife, Caroll of Venice, FL; and daughter, Deborah Kirby of Greenville, S.C.; grandson, Greg Izard and wife, Corrine of Greenville, S.C.; and great-granddaughter, Madelyn Claire Izard. He is also survived by his brothers, C.Y. Higginbotham (Clara) and Ralph Higginbotham (Kay); sister, Sarah Pearl Halford; and many loving nieces and nephews who will miss their Uncle John.
