Obituary

John H. Fox, III, 94, died December 6, 2021 after a long illness. He is survived by wife Cameron Michie Fox. They were married for 37 years. John has four children and four step children.
Preceded in death by parents Majorie and John H Fox Jr. of Oxford, MS. Brothers Dr. Andrew Fox, Oxford, and Clifford G. Fox, Henderson, Nevada and step daughter Vicki Smith Generelly, Richmond, VA. And grandson, John A. Clark, New Orleans, Louisiana.

John was actively involved in Episcopal church activities as well as community of Clinton. He graduated from School of Law at University of Mississippi, was commissioned as a LT and spent several interesting years in Austria during the Korean War conflict. After his active-duty service in Austria he returned to MS to raise his family. During the rest of his adult life, he continued to serve the Army, the State and Nation he loved. His service included the 4402nd Civil Affairs unit of the US Army Reserve. In the late 60's and 70's He transferred to the MS Army National Guard where he serviced proudly as the Battalion Commander of the 1st Battalion 155th Infantry Mechanized. After promotion to Colonel, he served as the Commandant of the MS Military Academy at Camp Shelby, Mississippi. Here he was instrumental in establishment of the Third Non-Commissioned Officer Academy which is still one of the Third Non-Commissioned Officer Academy which is still one of the Pre-Eminent Non-Commissioned Officer Academies in the Nation. At this time, he also oversaw the Officer Candidate Program which helped shape the Mississippi National Guard as it stands today by Graduating Young Officers who have Risen to the Rank of Adjutant General, Mississippi National Guard. His awards include Legion of Merit, Military Commendation Medal, several other Military and Civilian awards along with serving along with Serving Multiple Times as Regional Director of the Employers Support of the Guard and Reserve Organization. He also proudly served in the Mississippi State Guard.
His career as an attorney was 40 years long and beautifully diverse. He worked in attorney general office and for the city of Clinton as the City Attorney as well as Attorney for the Clinton School Board. He would always take many cases and just helping people whenever he could. His neighbors felt free to call him for advice concerning their lives, their livestock, and their worry over an event.

He enjoyed traveling with wife, Cameron. His favorite country was Bhutan. They made many trips to Europe. He had relatives in England, his mother's homeland. His interest in Austria took them there many times as well as most countries.

He leaves four children and four step children.
