John P.
Coleman
April 8, 1953 – March 20, 2026
Dr. John Patrick Coleman of Brandon, Mississippi, passed away on March 20, 2026.
Born in Rochester, New York, on April 8, 1953, John spent his early childhood living on various Navy bases across California, Hawaii, and the South Pacific. These experiences helped shape his quiet strength and deep appreciation for life's simple moments. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Christopher and Mary Louise Coleman.
John earned his Ph.D. in Biology from the University of Notre Dame and his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He dedicated his career to medicine as a pathologist at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where he was known for his commitment to the study and understanding of disease.
He attended undergraduate school at the State University of New York at Brockport, where he met his devoted wife of 47 years, JoAnne.
John was a loving husband to JoAnne A. Coleman and a proud father to John H. Coleman, Cristin T. Coleman Foote (Steven Foote II), and Richard V. Coleman (Morgan Coleman). He is also survived by his brother, Kevin D. Coleman (Suzette Coleman). His family was the center of his life, and he found his greatest joy in time spent with them.
Known for his quiet nature and gentle spirit, John had a deep love for animals and a lifelong passion for Notre Dame football. Whether watching a game or sneaking his dog a "second breakfast," he found happiness in the simple things he loved most.
He will be remembered for his kindness, steady presence, quiet stoicism, and well-timed dad jokes.
