John E. Brodbeck II, of Clinton, passed away on February 23, 2018. John was born in Savanna, Illinois on April 19, 1948. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Miriam, and his son Scott Everett Brodbeck. He is survived by his sister Candace Edgerly and brother Dana Brodbeck, his wife of 46 years Kay Brodbeck and his daughters Jessica, Amy and Laura Brodbeck.
John was an avid safety promoter locally and nationally and worked tirelessly to help ensure that people at the workplace and on our roads would make it home safely. John was an engineer and served as the head of the Safety Department at Delphi Packard Electric in Clinton. He was a Master Trainer for Defensive Driving Courses of the National Safety Council. Over 30 years, he taught driving courses to over 15,000 students in Mississippi. John served as President of the Mississippi chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers, as the Chairman of the Board for Mississippi Blood Services, as a volunteer firefighter and as an instructor for first aid and CPR classes. In 2017, John was honored with a lifetime achievement award called the Distinguished Service to Safety Award in transportation safety by the National Safety Council. He lived his passion every day to make the world a better place.
John was an eternally curious life-long learner, who took long road trips every summer to make new memories with his family. John had the gift of being a "fixer" who could look at any problem and find a solution. He was a loving and dedicated father who was always available to give advice, especially over a bowl of ice cream. John will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his love will live on.
John's brain was donated to the Brain Donor Project of the National Institutes of Health for medical research. A memorial to honor John's life will be held on Wednesday, February 28th at 3:00 pm at Northside Baptist Church in Clinton. A reception to celebrate John's life will follow and all are welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations in John's name may be made to the Clinton Nature Center.
