Jo Lynn Rhoades Swayze, aged 89, went to be with the Lord on April 11, 2025, in Jackson, MS. Jo Lynn was born on April 5,1936 in New Orleans. She graduated from Fortier High School in New Orleans, and Louisiana State University, class of 1957. Jo Lynn was known for her commitment to education, and she loved teaching kindergarteners to read. As a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church in Jackson, MS, Jo Lynn was an active participant, leading bible studies and mentoring young women. She knew and loved Jesus and wanted nothing more than for her children and grandchildren to follow Him.

Jo Lynn was a devoted wife to Orrin Hayes Swayze, Jr., whom she married on June 7, 1958, in New Orleans, LA. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her husband, Orrin, and her children, Alison Swayze Bowman (Max) of Ridgeland, MS, Orrin Scott Swayze (Carol) of Atlanta, GA, Stewart Cole Swayze (Vicki) of Jackson, MS, and Rhonda Bennett Swayze (widow of Alan Swayze) of Canton, GA, as well as her grandchildren, Swayze Bowman (Sarah) of Chattanooga, TN, Hayes Bowman (Elizabeth) of Memphis, TN, Grace Martinez (DJ) of Marietta, GA, Adair Chappell (Andrew) of Newnan, GA, Madeline Torrez (Cooper) of Nashville TN, Catherine May (Nelson) of Marietta, GA, Orrin Swayze (Rachael) of Atlanta, GA, Callie Swayze of Seattle, WA, Caroline Swayze of Jackson, MS, Cole Swayze (Allie) of Nashville, TN, Thomas Swayze of NY, NY, Aden Swayze of Miami, FL, Ben Swayze of Canton, GA, Logan Swayze of Canton, GA, and Jacob Swayze of Canton, GA , and 14 precious great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Alan Rhoades Swayze, her father, Jack Marion Rhoades, her mother, Berniece Evans Rhoades McLaren, and her stepfather, Fred McLaren.

Jo Lynn's hobbies included gardening, sewing, crafting silhouettes, and calligraphy, all of which brought creative joy throughout her life.

A service to celebrate Jo Lynn's life will be held on April 17, 2025, at the First Presbyterian Church in Jackson, MS. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by the memorial service at 11:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Day School in Jackson, MS, in her memory. Jo Lynn's legacy of faith, love, and education will be remembered by all who knew her.
