Obituary

Jo Ann Flynt, 84, of Clinton, transitioned from this earth to her Heavenly Home on August 3, 2023.  Jo Ann was born on June 2, 1939 in Jackson, Mississippi, to John Anderson Gregory and Lollie Elizabeth Gregory (Porch) who had roots in Pocahontas and Jackson, Mississippi. She attended Central High School and graduated from Murrah High School in 1958. She married her sweetheart, Albert Roy (Buddy) Flynt on August 17, 1958. They lived in Starkville for a time while Buddy attended Mississippi State University and served in the ROTC. Buddy and Jo Ann moved to Jackson where Buddy worked for Mississippi Products Incorporated and Jo Ann became a Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked in numerous roles, but worked for Dr. Potter's Clinic in Madison, MS for nearly 10 years. Jo Ann gave birth to two sons, Gregory Anderson (1963) and Richard (Ricky) Darrel (1966).

Buddy and Jo Ann moved to Clinton in 1971 where Buddy built their home on Skyline Dr. and raised Greg and Ricky in "the woods." The home has become a Flynt family icon and has been the home of multiple generations of the family.

Jo Ann is well known for her years working at the Dairy Queen in Clinton where she made many lifelong friends whom she has loved dearly. One of her specialties was decorating ice cream cakes, which was a skill she maintained in life making birthday cakes for her family and numerous friends. Jo Ann had a tradition of always remembering birthdays and anniversaries of everyone special to her and would send "special" birthday cards. Those who were the recipients of those cards knew to be careful to open the card in private since she thoroughly enjoyed the humorous and sometimes slightly inappropriate type.

Jo Ann and Buddy have enjoyed traveling during their entire marriage of 65 years together. It was not unusual for Greg and Ricky to get a phone call from them to let them know they had taken off and driven three or four hundred miles away without any notice. Jo Ann was also known for her green thumb and her love of feeding the wild birds. She kept the yard, patio, and deck full of beautiful plants and flowers and everyone who came to visit was entertained by the birds who used the feeders and bird houses.

Jo Ann was preceded in death by her parents and brother Robert Gregory.  She is survived by her husband Albert Roy (Buddy) Flynt; children Greg Flynt (Carol Ann) and Ricky Flynt (Judy); her grandchildren Laura Beth Puhr (Michael), Taylor Flynt, Amber Rae Bell (Don), Bradi Nicole Flynt and Shelby Stump; and her great grandchildren Easton Flynt and Ollie Bell.

Pallbearers are Taylor Flynt, Michael Puhr, Bryan Lynch, Landon Lynch, Logan Lynch, Allan Carmean and Brice Stubbs.
