Jimmy Dale Cox was born at home in Edwards Ms. on November 21,

1949 to Robert and Bessie Cox, and was the youngest of 10 children. He went to be with his Lord and Savior September 23, 2026.

Jimmy resided in the Pocahontas Community, where he attended the Pocahontas Baptist Church for 25+ years. 

Jimmy served in the United States Marine Corps from 1969-1975, where he was a Force Reconnaissance Marine in Vietnam, spending most of his time on or behind the front lines of the conflict, and was awarded multiple medals for his service. He was very proud of his service to his country and Marine Corps. 

He retired from the Hinds County Public Works Department and went on to work as a heavy equipment operator, doing dirt work for many people around Hinds County and surrounding areas. When he wasn’t working, he loved being in the outdoors. Hunting and fishing was his favorite pastimes. He was known for giving away extra vegetables, fish and venison to his friends around the community. 

He is preceded in death by sisters Billy Ruth Cox, Bertha Rather, Betty White(Husband Bobby) and brothers Robert Jr, Shelby, William(wife Georgia), Lamar, Frank(wife Clara), Marvin, and step son Michael Barns. 

He is survived by his son Richard (wife Kelley), grandson Malachi, ex-wife Teresa(sons Karl and Robert Barnes), brother in law Charles Rather, sister in law Bessie Cox, and numerous nieces and nephews who he loved as his own children. 

A memorial service will be held at Wright And Ferguson funeral home in Raymond on Monday October 5th, from 3-5 pm.
