Jerry Scott, age 77, died on February 28, 2026, at his home in Canton, MS.
He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Robin Dorman Scott, of Canton; his son, Marc Scott (Anita) of Orlando, FL; his grandchildren: Nathan Kello (Rhyan) of Houston, TX; Haley Scott and fianceé, Patton Grooms, of Knoxville, TN; Gabrielle Scott and Lauren Scott, both of Orlando, FL; his great grandchildren, Everly Kello and Caroline Kello, both of Houston, TX; his brother, Larry Scott (Linda) of Sherman, TX; niece, Lori McWilliams (Robb) of Dallas, TX; and his four-legged kids (dogs) EliV and Barney, who loved their Papa. He is preceded in death by his father, Herman "Buddy" Scott; mother, Velma Lee Scott, both of Durant, OK; and mother-in-law, Vivian Lowe Dorman of Jackson, MS.
He was born on January 20, 1949, in Durant, Oklahoma to Herman "Buddy" and Velma Scott. Jerry grew up with a passion for the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He graduated from Southeastern Oklahoma State University and earned his Master's in Fisheries Biology from Oklahoma State University. He went on to a dedicated career as a Fisheries Biologist for the Corps of Engineers in Louisville, KY and Vicksburg, MS. In 1987, he and a partner opened C & S Marine, Inc. in Flowood, MS, which he co-owned, eventually owned, and operated for 25 years until its closure in 2012. During this period, his friendly approach and amiable personality fostered a multitude of long-lasting personal and professional relationships. It was very common for customers to become friends and often stop by to just say, "Hi!," on their way home from work. He also earned a reputation as a firm, but honest and fair, Director for Angler's Choice and Media Bass regional bass fishing tournament circuits. Additionally, he had a soft spot for a variety of charities, evidenced by his involvement with the following annual bass tournaments: American Heart Association - Mississippi, Fallen Firefighters, Make-A-Wish, and Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Beyond his professional life, Jerry could not deny his passion for fishing. In his last years, he was eager to share his passion and extensive knowledge with patrons at Academy Sports, particularly children who were learning about fishing for the first time. These early lessons almost always came with stories of one of his grand adventures which only added to the youngsters' excitement. Those who knew him will remember his gentle nature, kind heart, and infectious laugh. He was also known as an excellent cook who cherished each opportunity to share meals with friends, family, and coworkers.
A celebration of life will be held on June 6th and start at approximately 4pm, immediately following the conclusion of the MediaBass tournament weigh-in at the Hwy 43 boat ramp adjacent to Tommy's Trading Post.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association - Mississippi or Community Animal Rescue and Adoption (CARA) - Mississippi."
