On Sunday, November 24, 2019, Jerry Lee DeLaughter, Sr., loving husband, father, and grandfather passed away at the age of 71.
Jerry was born on April 7, 1948, in Greenville, Mississippi, to Lee and Maxine (Johnston) DeLaughter. He was a Vietnam veteran, an ordained minister, and a pilot. On June 25, 1966, he married Judy C. Tackett. They raised two sons, Jerry DeLaughter, Jr. (Jennifer), Jacob DeLaughter (Teresa), and one daughter, Jamie DeLaughter-Spall (Atif). Grandchildren include Kayla DeLaughter, Jacob T. DeLaughter, Evan Fuller, Nathan Fuller, Kaden Fuller-Spall, William DeLaughter, Noah DeLaughter, Jonah DeLaughter, and two great grandchildren include Jackson DeLaughter and Elizabeth DeLaughter. Jerry is survived by his brothers, Danny DeLaughter, Tommy DeLaughter, Billy DeLaughter, and his two sisters, Cathy Cody and Edith Bright. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Frank DeLaughter.
Jerry had a passion for airplanes and motorcycles. He took many trips in support of U.S. Veterans and was affiliated with Hardcore Motorcycle Ministries, Run for the Wall, and In Country Vietnam Veteran's Motorcycle Club. He enjoyed building his own airplanes and then flying them.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2019, at Wright and Ferguson in Clinton, Mississippi, at 1:00 P.M. Blue jeans and motorcycles are welcome. Those who knew Jerry well, knew that his favorite shirts were Hawaiian, so blue jeans and Hawaiian shirts are welcome. Friends and family are invited to tell funny or spiritual stories of your memories with Jerry. In lieu of flowers, please bring gifts for the homeless such as socks, hats, gloves, scarfs, coats, etc., or bring a toy for "Toys for Tots." This will be Jerry's last ministry mission on earth and will honor him and Judy both.
