Alice Geraldine Jackson Wiygul passed away at her home November 3, 2021.
Jeri, as she was known, was born in Decaturville, TN on January 18, 1932, to Mittie Blackstock Jackson and Noble Festus Jackson.
She grew up on a farm and was a hard worker, picking cotton and doing other farm chores until age 14 when relatives asked her to come live with them and work at their restaurant while attending school at Decatur County High School.
In high school, she struggled with chemistry but exceled in extracurricular activities. She played on the basketball team, was chosen to attend Girls State and in 1948 was selected Miss Decatur County.
Following high school, she moved to Nashville, TN to work for the State of TN Inspection Dept. While in Nashville she received a job opportunity to move to Washington, DC to work for the U.S Marine Corp at the Pentagon, which she eagerly accepted. While in Washington, she developed a love of history and visited many historical sites in the area. Her favorite was Thomas Jefferson's Monticello. Her love of history was matched by her love of music and dance. She and her dance partner once placed first in a jitterbug contest. Her prize was a beautiful ring, which she wore for many years before passing it down to her daughters.
After leaving Washington, she worked at the Veteran's Hospital in Memphis, TN. It was in Memphis that she met her future husband, James Roy Wiygul. They were married there in 1954 and later moved to Tupelo, MS with Standard Oil Co. and then later moved to Clinton, MS. While living in Clinton, Jeri began working as a realtor and later opened up her own real estate company, Jeri Wiygul Real Estate.
She was a lifelong sports fan following several sports, especially football, basketball and the Olympics. Her fondest memory in sports was the year she won both the football and basketball ESPN College Fantasy Challenge. She beat out approximately 25 other players at her daughter Rebecca's place of work.
Her proudest accomplishment was being a mother to her three children, Deborah Carol Stribling (Gerald), Rebecca Ann Jenkins (Rick) and James Roy Wiygul III.
Preceding Jeri in death were her husband, James Roy Wiygul Jr., parents Noble Festus Jackson and Mittie Jane Blackstock Jackson, brothers Grady Oteen Jackson, Noble Eugene Jackson, Jerry Lynn Jackson and Joe Ted Jackson, sisters Lena Mae Bostic and Linda Kay Bain and brothers-in-law Arthur Bostic, Bob Hensley and James Holt and sister-in-law Grace Jackson.
Surviving family are her daughters Deborah Stribling (Gerald), Rebecca Jenkins (Rick), son James Roy Wiygul III, granddaughters Brittany McHann (Brad), Dr. Jenna Stribling-Prater (Levi), three great grandchildren, Maddox, Kennedy and Ruby McHann, sisters June Hensley, Patricia Holt, brother Alan Jackson (Kinda), brother-in-law Juan Bain and sisters-in-law Butonne Jackson and Anna-Monika Jackson. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Also, three special ladies, Debbie Lovell, Dorothy Caston and Deborah Williams, who will always be members of the Wiygul family.
Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home located at 106 Cynthia Street, in Clinton, MS is in charge of funeral arrangements. Visitation will be Monday, November 8th from 5:00pm to 7:00pm and Tuesday, November 9th from 10:00am until 11:00am. The Memorial service will begin at 11:00am. Following the service, burial will take place at Lakewood Memorial Park.
