Obituary

Jeanne Ann Lockwood Scoles, age 79, passed away on November 16 at Merit Health-River Regions Hospital in Vicksburg, Mississippi.

Jeanne, the youngest of two daughters, was born on March 25, 1944 in Peoria, Illinois to Roy and Edith Lockwood.  Jeanne sometimes gave her parents fits as a young child as she had a habit of riding her tricycles and bicycles down the driveway and into the street.  Even in her youth, Jeanne practiced her God-given kindness of spirit and patience for people that helped her develop life long friendships.  That kindness and patience were foundational to Jeanne's life, and she exhibited those traits with every person she interacted with.  Jeanne graduated from East Peoria High School and went on to attend the University of Illinois in Champaign and later Bradley University in Peoria.

Jeanne was married to Daniel Duane Scoles on December 11, 1965 in Peoria, Illinois.  They were blessed to not only know one another as husband and wife, but also as best friends throughout their lives together.  They would have celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary this year.  In the earlier parts of their lives together, they lived in Peoria, Sunnyland, Morton and then LaSalle-Peru, Illinois before moving to Brandon, Mississippi in 1980 where they've resided since.

Jeanne enjoyed participating in bunco groups.  Her and Dan also spent many nights playing pinochle with her parents.  Most nights Jeanne and Edith got the best of Dan and Roy.  Jeanne always enjoyed her dogs and provided a home for many through the years.  When her sons were young, Jeanne believed firmly in the benefits of scouting, serving as den mother to her sons' packs while Dan served as Cubmaster.  Jeanne began participating in annual vacations in Minnesota with her parents and extended family.  This continued with Dan and so many various family members throughout the years including their sons who grew up with the same tradition.  Jeanne loved participating with Dan and other family in boating activities, and did for many years while her children were young adults.  And when Jeanne and Dan retired, they began traveling, visiting many states through their enjoyment of RV camping.  Jeanne also often enjoyed getting back to Illinois with Dan to visit with family.

Jeanne worked during most of her lifetime.  Her career began at CILCO as a secretary.  Jeanne later accepted a position with Caterpillar as an executive secretary.  After moving to Mississippi, Jeanne served as an executive assistant to several CEOs in the Nuclear Division of Entergy before retiring in 2009.

Jeanne is survived by her husband Daniel D Scoles and two sons, Daniel 'Scott' (Tamie) and Todd Duane (Nanci) all residing in Brandon, Mississippi; grandchildren Christopher Scoles, Riley Scoles, Samantha Scoles and Jessica Touchton (Tyler).

Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Edith Lockwood, and her sister Betty Lou Lockwood Wubben.

Visitation for Jeanne is to be held from 12:00pm to 2:00pm on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at Wright and Ferguson (Flowood, Ms) with a service immediately following in the chapel.
