Jeanette Latimer
Jeanette Clous Latimer, age 93, died on Wednesday, December 17, 2025. She was born June 28, 1932, on a farm in Kingsley, Michigan. She was the first child born to Victor and Pauline Clous, with other siblings following, Valita, Dale, Donaldine, Daniel, and Brent. She married Leo A. Pahl on January 28, 1950, and gave birth to Gail Lorraine. On June 25, 1957, she married Elbert Alexander Latimer. Their daughter Melody Ann was born in Michigan. Due to the fact that M/Sgt. Latimer was in the United States Air Force, they traveled extensively, and their son, Joel Daniel, was born in Landstuhl, Germany.
Their last assignment brought them to Crystal Springs, MS. Much to her husband's dismay, Jeanette loved the warm Mississippi climate, and so they stayed. She had previously worked in the offices of Kidder Optical in Michigan, then Simenstead Clinic in Osceola, Wisconsin, and finally she worked twenty years at The Medical Clinic in Crystal Springs. They later moved to Clinton, MS, where they retired.
Jeanette, along with her husband, was a member of the choirs at both St. John's Church in Crystal Springs and Holy Savior in Clinton. They also volunteered at New Stage, the Kessler Productions, the Mississippi Symphony, the Mississippi Ballet, as well as other smaller organizations. She was a longtime member of the International Friend's Club in Jackson, as well as the Auxiliary Wives Club of Holy Savior.
She loved to entertain friends and family, especially at Christmas when she would decorate the entire house and serve the finest of foods from a bountiful table.
Jeanette was a sickly child. The doctors told her parents she wouldn't live long. She not only overcame most of her health problems, she matured into a rather healthy adult with a ravenous appetite for life, trying her hand at everything from dancing, and painting in many different styles, to writing a newspaper column and finally publishing three books, one taking first place in the Mississippi Writer's Contest.
Jeanette was a person, who like her mother, always tried to meet the needs of people less fortunate than herself. She tended to one person for ten years, then continued to care for others in smaller ways. Jeanette always felt as though she had wasted her day if she didn't do something creative or helpful. She never looked for, nor received recognition or compensation, she used to jokingly say she was making up for her past mistakes.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert. She is survived by her daughter Gail, and husband Dan Hammond, of Brandon, MS; daughter Melody and husband, Wayne Pierce of Clinton, MS; son Joel and wife, Betty Lynn Latimer of Alta Loma, CA; grandchildren, Kevin Hammond, Carey McAlpin, Hunter McAlpin, Ethan Latimer, And Kira Latimer; great grandson, Austin McAlpin; great granddaughter, Fallon McAlpin; and great grandson, Kashton McAlpin.
