Obituary

Jean Willard Johnson of Clinton, MS passed away on March 18, 2026, at the age of 93. He was born on August 27, 1932, in the Success Community of Harrison County, Mississippi to the late Jordan Willard Johnson and Maud Blackwell Johnson. He made his home in Clinton, Mississippi for 65 years.

Jean attended Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and earned a B.S. degree in chemistry from Mississippi College. A man of service and ambition, he answered the call of duty by joining the United States Navy Reserve, where he served as a pilot and ultimately retired at the rank of Lieutenant Commander. In his early years of military aviation, he had the distinction of flying sea planes. After his Navy service, Jean continued to take to the skies in his own plane, finding joy and freedom among the clouds.

His professional career was marked by both enterprise and a genuine love of people. He spent fifteen years in pharmaceutical sales with Parke Davis, a role that suited his outgoing nature and positive spirit. He later ventured into business ownership operating College Cleaners in Clinton, for thirty years.

Jean's devotion to his community extended well beyond his business. He served the City of Clinton as an alderman and was a dedicated member of the Lions Club for many years.

Jean cherished the simple and profound pleasures of life. He loved traveling, discovering new places and revisiting old favorites. Few things brought him greater happiness than watching his grandchildren compete in their sporting events, cheering them on with unmistakable pride.

Above all else, Jean was a man of deep and abiding Christian faith. He was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Clinton, where he served in various roles over the years, always seeking to honor God through his actions and his relationships. His faith was the foundation upon which he built his life, and it sustained him through every season. He trusted in the promises of the Lord and lived each day as a reflection of that trust.

Jean was preceded in death by his brothers, Judson Johnson and Glendon Johnson. He is survived by his beloved wife of over sixty-five years, Jane Barlow Johnson; his three daughters, Polly Brown (Joe) of Panama City Beach, FL, Claire Adams (Jack) of Huntsville, AL, and Amanda Bosarge (Scott) of Flora; and his sister, Ona Frances Lynch of Knoxville, TN. He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren, Shelby Watson, Mackenzie Seilhan (Josh), Cade Watson, Katherine Williams (John), Caroline Gist (Chris), John Adams, Jacob Jenkins (Mary Horton), Hayden Bosarge (Tori), Jane Claire Jenkins, Brooke Bosarge, Brady Bosarge, and 8 great grandchildren.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Brookdale Assisted Living in Clinton, with special thanks to Wanda, Shameka, and Yvette from Home Instead for their compassion and care during Jean's final days. His family finds comfort in the assurance that he is now at rest in the arms of his Savior.
