Janice Morgan Thrift, 92, died Thursday April 30, 2026 at Castlewoods Place assisted living facility in Brandon, MS.

A memorial service will be held at Saint Peter’s Episcopal Church in Oxford, MS at 11:00 on Thursday, May 7. Visitation will be held in the church parish hall from 10:00 until service time at 11:00.

Janice was born on September 9, 1933, to Arthur and Gertrude Morgan in Slocomb, AL.

Janice enlisted in the Air Force in 1952 where she met and married her husband of 58 years, Jack W. Thrift. After studying at Ole Miss, she was employed at the Social Security Administration, the Welfare Department and the Natchez Trace Parkway in Tupelo and, after moving to Oxford, she worked at the Soil Conservation Service where she ultimately retired.

Survivors include sons Jack W. Thrift, Jr. and wife Therese and their children Morgan and Allee of Seabrook TX; Timothy Thrift and wife Stephanie of Montgomery, TX and their son Alex of Houston, TX; daughters Jill Hart and husband Mike and their sons Kyle and Chris of Brandon, MS; Amy Burns and her children Alden, Jack and Elise of Water Valley, MS; and five great-grandchildren.
