James M. (Jim) Harrison, Sr., 77, of Jackson died Wednesday June 13, 2018 after a short illness. Funeral services will be held on Saturday June 16, 2018 at 11:00 am at Christ United Methodist Church with visitation beginning at 9:00 am at the church. Burial will follow in Montgomery Cemetery in Madison.
A life long Jacksonian, he graduated from Murrah High School in 1958 and the University of Mississippi School of Business with a BBA in Economics. Upon graduation he entered the insurance business and served for the next 50 years as an independent insurance agent. He was a member of the Associated General Contractors of Mississippi and the Associated Builders and Contractors of Mississippi.
He was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church for the past 50 years where he served multiple terms on the Finance Committee and as a member of the Administrative Board. He never missed an opportunity to be with his beloved New Yorker Sunday School Class.
He was an avid supporter of Ole Miss and was a life member of The Ole Miss Alumni Association and The Ole Miss Loyalty Foundation.
For many years he was a member of Ducks Unlimited and enjoyed every winter season duck hunting with his dear deceased friend Pat Raborn.
He was a member of The Country Club of Jackson since 1968 and a former president of the Men's Golf Association. Over his lifetime, Jim remarkably made three holes in one and won several club sponsored championships. One of his proudest moments was to play an even par round at the home of golf, St. Andrews Links Course in Scotland.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Claire Holder Harrison; his daughter, Kimberly Harrison McDonald (Brandon); his son, James Mercer "Jay" Harrison, Jr. (Amy); step sons, Chris Rountree (Mary) and Kelly Adams (Amanda); he was the proud grandfather of Matt, Harrison, Ellie Critz, Mary Mercer, Holland, Haley, Christopher, Evan and Graham.
