Obituary

James Allen (Jim) Glenn, Sr., 75, went home to be with our Lord on Sunday, January 24, 2016. He was born June 8, 1940, to Orville Ray & Mary Louise (Jones) Glenn in Louisville, Kentucky.
The son of a Cumberland Presbyterian preacher, Jim moved several times before settling in Jackson, Mississippi. He attended Forest Hill High School before joining the US Navy in 1959, serving in Argentia, Newfoundland. While in the Navy, he married Suzanne Bright, returning home to Mississippi following his honorable discharge. Jim worked for PET Milk Company as a driver before beginning his law enforcement career.
Jim served for 20 years with the Clinton, MS Police Department (CPD), most of those years in Community Relations, where he was known to Clinton's schoolchildren as "Officer Friendly." He won numerous awards & recognitions in the course of his career, including Officer of the Year, and found immense joy in escorting Clinton's sports teams & cheerleaders to away games and directing traffic near the stadium for home games. In addition, he served as an advisor in the Explorer Scouts group based in Clinton. He retired from CPD as a Lieutenant in 1991, remaining a reserve officer for years beyond that. Jim also served in the 114th MP Unit of the National Guard in Clinton. After retiring from CPD, Jim served as Chief of Security at Mississippi College, Central Mississippi Medical Center and Belhaven University, before retiring for good in 2006.
He was an active member of Morrison Heights Baptist Church in Clinton, singing in the choir and serving as deacon throughout the years. He and Suzanne enjoyed camping, including memorable cross-country trips with friends, family and camping clubs to Alaska and Niagara Falls, among others. After retiring, Jim looked forward to weekly standing lunch appointments with precious friends Rex & Nancy Haggard of Brandon. Their longtime friendship made them part of the family.
Jim was a truly unforgettable, one-of-a-kind character, with an infectious smile and a love for practical jokes that was legendary to family & friends. Nearly every bride and groom in his extended family has a wedding day story of a prank involving Uncle Jim.
He was preceded in death by his wife and best friend of 49 years Suzanne, his mother and father, as well as his brother Leslie Glenn, and brother-in-law Glenn Moore.
Jim is survived by his son James Allen (Jimmy) Glenn, Jr. (Meg); fiancé and sweetie Carl Nell Heard of Gallman, MS; two sisters, Barbara Glenn Mount (Floyd "Sonny") of Sharon, TN, Brenda Glenn Moore of Fayetteville, TN; brother Orville Glenn, Jr. (Brenda) of Tullahoma, TN; sister-in-law Susan Glenn of Waverly, TN; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family & friends..
