Obituary

Miss Jacquelin (Jackie) Ashley was born September 12, 1922 in Jackson, MS and died on June 9, 2023. She lived an interesting 100 plus years. She first graduated from then Hinds Junior College in Raymond, MS about 1941 or 42 and soon thereafter went to Washington, D.C. where she worked as a secretary for different agencies supporting WW II. She lived in a women's boarding house not far from the capitol and frequently helped at a local USO where she entertained the troops playing the piano. She returned to Clinton about 1943 and graduated from MS College with a group of Navy officers under a shortened program in December, 1944. After the war she worked for AM South Bank in Birmingham, AL until she retired and returned to Clinton about 1985.

After she retired, she helped the community as a volunteer tax assistant and played a mean game of dominoes with her friends. She loved First Baptist Church in Clinton and sang with the joy makers group for many years.

Miss Ashley lived at Brookdale Senior Living in Clinton where she was well cared for. The family thanks the staff at Brookdale and Baptist Hospice for their compassionate care. She never married and is survived by a nephew Robert McDonald and a niece, Anne Coleman. Miss Jackie will be buried at Clinton Cemetery with a graveside service at 10:00 a.m. on July 13. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to First Baptist Church in Clinton.
