Obituary

Amos Jack Gray, 82, passed away Thursday, January 2, 2020. Visitation will be held from 5pm - 7pm Monday, January 6, 2020 and again on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at 10am followed by funeral services at 11am all at First Baptist Church of Raymond. He will be laid to rest at Raymond Cemetery.

Amos Jack was born January 3, 1937 in San Angelo, Texas. He was the oldest of six children born to the late Lovard Truman (LT) and Marjorie Jo Allen Gray. The Gray family moved to Raymond, Mississippi when Amos Jack was two. He attended Raymond Elementary, Raymond High School and Hinds Junior College. While in high school and in Junior college, he served as Class president and a member of both bands. He was an active member of the 4-H Club. He graduated from Mississippi College.

Amos Jack was an active member of Raymond Baptist Church and Parkway Baptist Church where he served on the deacon body of both churches. He taught Sunday school for many years and loved talking about the Lord. He was a hard-working man. After retiring from IBM, he started his own pottery business in Raymond at the age of 71. He also went to work on the pipeline with one of his brothers. He worked for the Hinds County Sheriff department, and the town of Raymond.

Amos Jack is survived by his wife, Laura Nan (Honey) Allen Gray of 61 years; and daughter, Lori (Rusty) Berry. He has three grandchildren, Amanda Berry Hearn (Dale), Matthew (Megan) Berry, and Nicholas (Ashley) Berry; six great-grandchildren, Hollie, Hunter, Holt, Maggie, James David (JD), and Nora Grace. He is also survived by his sister, L'tene Walker of Richmond, Texas.

Amos Jack is preceded in death by his son, Michael Allen Gray; brothers, Jim Allen, Lovard Truman Jr. (Dan), Lewis Billy Don (Bill) and sister, Jean Ann.

As a Christ follower, Jack lived by the passage in Luke 10:27, "To love the Lord with all your heart and to love your neighbor as yourself." He loved his family deeply, cared for every animal he came across and has a passion for working in his yard and garden.
