Irene S. Cutrer, died December 6, 2020 at St. Dominic Hospital. Visitation will be at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in Clinton on Friday from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm followed by services in the chapel at 2:00 pm with burial in Lakewood Memorial Park Cemetery on Clinton Blvd. The officiating minister will be Reverend Sid Johnson of Alta Woods Baptist Church.
Irene was born in Brookhaven, Mississippi, December 13, 1927 to Felix B. Smith and Bessie Irene Case Smith. She moved to Jackson in l946 where she met and married Claude L. Cutrer. They raised three sons, Claude Cutrer, Jr., Douglas Wayne Cutrer, and Donald Keith Cutrer. She was a long time member of Alta Woods Baptist Church serving as Church Clerk since 1997, having served on the Budget Section, and Trustee of the Alta Woods Baptist Church Foundation and many other committees during her membership there.
Mrs. Cutrer was a devoted mother and wife who juggled her time between homemaking and career; starting this career after her last child was in school. She was trained in Mortgage Banking in Norman, Oklahoma and worked in mortgage banking for approximately 25 years. She joined Deposit Guaranty Mortgage Company in 1976, and retired from there in 1991, as Senior Vice President. She managed loan production offices through out the Southeast Region. After retirement, she took a new challenge with First American Title Insurance Company as Director of Special Services. She retired from there in 1996. She received numerous rewards; among them the coveted Spirit Award for four consecutive years, and First Lady of Mortgage Banking award in 1996
She served in a number of industry related organizations, including the Mortgage Banker's Association which she helped found in the early '70's and subsequently served as President and Director. She served as a member of the Jackson Board of Realtors, Women's Council of Realtors, Homebuilder's Association, Sales and Marketing Council, First Ladies Civitan Club, Jackson Chamber of Commerce, National Association of Bank Women, South Jackson Civic League, South Jackson Hinds County Development Association, Housing and Urban Development Association, FHA Housing and Urban Development Regional Advisory Council, and on the steering committee for Energy Related Homes. She also worked with Jackson Resource for abused children.
Her memory will live on in her family; Douglas Cutrer, Donald Cutrer; daughter-in-law Kathy Cutrer, her grandchildren; Clint Cutrer, Bryan Cutrer, Vanessa Mitchell (James), Nichole Cutrer, Melissa Cutrer Jenkins, and Monica Gonzales. Her great grandchildren, Jeffrey, Austin, Brett, Alex, Caleb, Tanner, Bobby, Christian, Claudia and Marcus are special reminders of her time here.
She also leaves one; sister-in-law, Iris Barksdale Smith of Brandon, MS; sister-in-law Katherine Cutrer, of Sylvis, Illinois; sister-in-law Joe Ann Peets, of Brandon, MS; and a number of loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Claude (C.L.) Cutrer, her son Claude, Jr., parents, Felix and Bessie Smith of Brookhaven, MS, two brothers, Sam Smith of Kenner, LA; Robert Smith of Brookhaven, MS, a sister Christine Smith Hux, a grandson, Joseph Ashton (Jody) Cutrer, and a brother-in-law Lloyd.
The family would like to thank all of their faithful family and friends for their love, support, and continued prayers.
