In Loving Memory of Ima Jean Hudson
Ima Jean Hodgins Hudson, a beloved, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on November 24 after a brief illness. She lived a life full of kindness, creativity and service leaving an indelible mark on everyone who knew her.
Born on December 27,1922, in Lauderdale County, Ima Jean grew up with a deep appreciation of family, faith and the beauty of nature. A dedicated homemaker and remarkable cook, she created countless memories and shared many meals around her table, where laughter and love were always the main ingredients.
Ima Jean was a longtime and devoted member of Alta Woods United Methodist Church, where she also became an active participant in United Methodist Women. Her faith and generosity of spirit were evident in her involvement in numerous church activities and outreach programs reflecting her commitment to helping others.
In 1979, Ima Jean discovered her passion for painting, and over the years, she honed her skills to become an accomplished artist. Her works captured the world as she saw it…vivid, serene, and full of life. She also loved tending to her garden and was a proud member of the local garden club where she forged lasting friendships and shared her love for flowers and nature.
In 1995, she and her husband made Pearl, MS their home, creating new memories in a community they grew to love. Together, they traveled extensively, exploring new places and collecting stories from around the world, always returning home with a greater appreciation for life and its wonders.
Ima Jean is survived by her son, Roger, her grandson, Jason and granddaughter, Ashley and great-grandson, Brendan Nations and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Annie Bea Hodgins; her husband, Austin; her sister, Itaska Rea; and her brothers, Legette, Hubert, Clois, Elwood, Norford, R.B. and Tracy Hodgins.
Her legacy of warmth, creativity and service will be celebrated with a visitation at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in Flowood from 10-11 AM on Monday, December 2 and a graveside service at 1:30 at the Cedarlawn Cemetery in Philadelphia MS. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Alta Woods United Methodist Church in Jackson, MS.
Her family takes comfort in knowing she is at peace, surrounded by the eternal beauty she captured in her art and in her life.
