Hugh Wilford Purvis went to be with our Lord on Friday, September 20, 2019.
Hugh was born February 12, 1933 in Flora, MS to Carrie and Daniel Purvis. The eldest of 5 children, he took pride in driving the school bus during his time at Flora High School where he graduated in 1952.
Following graduation, Hugh entered the Air Force in which he served as an aircraft mechanic. He spent four years serving in various locations around the world including Texas, Louisiana, England, and Portugal. After returning home in the summer of 1956, he worked at the Coca-Cola plant for 6 months before taking a permanent position with Sperry Vickers Aerospace Engineering as an inspector where he worked for 42 years before retiring in 1998.
Hugh was a lifelong member of Franklin Baptist Church where he met Inez, his wife of 61 years.
The pair moved to Jackson for 10 years after they wed in 1958 but soon returned home to Flora where they raised their two children.
Hugh will be remembered fondly by his children and grandchildren as an avid storyteller and follower of the saying, "One man's trash is another man's treasure."
Hugh is preceded in death by his parents, Carrie and Daniel Purvis; and brother, Raymond Purvis. He is survived by his wife, Inez Howell Purvis; children, Timothy Purvis and Lori Myers (Mitchell); brother, Richard Purvis; sisters, Joann Kervin and Theresa Green; 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
